Subject: Re: ADA thresholds

I accommodated you through all these changes and I have  respected You and Your client and most important the door price quoted for all doors including interior doors.

This reference attached “your summary quote” is a quote for the 3/4″ double  glass.  Since, you have made changes to 1/4″ .
The doors are made to accept a 1/4″ glass that you will provide. If you are not expecting this 1/4″ thick glass door frame, must let me know ASAP.   I am not aware of any change to 1/4” glass – all
Glass must be 3/4” dual pane to meet T-24 requirements.  Glass stops should be sized for glass to be in center of door
I have not made any changes to the upper portion of your page, as it was the basis for this transaction.
The glass cancellation came exactly 8 weeks after commencement of order.  The previews style  3/4 ” glass is a quote you had asked for, this is one of those accommodations.
In regards to the “delete pre-satin” -1440.00.
I had provided information that explains that Interior doors were quoted with a pre-stain cost, not the Exterior doors, it is in the bottom part of your web-page, You had already acknowledged you  are wrong on this claim.
The 600 for thresholds is what I am paying because I accidentally pasted that line after in our final contract,  after I had communicated to you in multiple occasions  “please provide I will install at no cost to you.”
The delivery charge is not included in the $19,404.00 final agreement but it is included in the total of 21,707.38 as freight is typically not a taxable item”
I copied this line from top of your web-page, it was posted prior to 4.28.18 notice the bottom line.  These 12 include wrought iron as shown on Armitage Images design drawing $19,404.00 Total of 12

Taxes $1,843.38, delivery $460.00 total $ 21,707.38

* add 68.00 each if customer decides finish/clear coat

A correction is due You are correct and  I apologise.  Net total you have paid, 10,853.38  your net balance is $4,976.00. Okay – I will provide a cashiers check for this amount
 Below the numbers.
  420 (iron welded locks) +  1 iron grill made 420.00 =$840.00
 12 doors, 19,404.00 + 840.00 = 20,244.00  – cancelled glass <4,320.00> = 15,464.00 less delivery charge <460> = 15,004.00 + Tax 1,425.38 = $16,429.38 less deposit $10,853.38 Balance $5,576.00 (deduct for bronze thresholds) <600.00> = $4,976.00
Balance $4,976.00   Cashiers check, Certified Check or Wire transfer.
Will call Los Angeles on or after 10.17.18 ( 10 weeks from last modification, 5 weeks from back order iron availability ) Technically 5 weeks ahead of standard production agreed policy.
Last email from you said pick up in LA on Monday….if they are being transported to LA from Mexico, then please contact me when they are in LA and send a photo.  We will send a truck and trailer the next day.
On a different subject, I have 2 questions:
1.- Door Prep, I want to confirm that the ” spex” sheet for door hole asks for a door hole,  standard 2 1/8″.  We bore at 36″ on center from floor is this OK?    (no answer, please agree or disagree)
Are you sure only 1 hole? common height between 34″- 48″. Are You OK with this?
2.- Also We pre-mortise the entire hinge (both sides or 1/4″) on the door side and install the hinge on door according to door swing schedule.  Are You OK with this? yes

I went out to the existing gate and took a picture of the “do-hickies”  (see attached) and think this one from King Metal more closely matches http://www.kingmetals.com/Catalog/ItemContent.aspx?ItemNumber=5154&CatalogId=c39&CatalogDetailId=689&NSM=Y

The one in the photo is approx. 2.25” L

Have drawn this to the best of my ability. As you requested Charlie i tried to select pieces from King Metals that “might work for do-hickies” I say might as pix did not match dimensions listed–I drew to dims- front grill would be hinged to clean glass behind. Hope this works. KCA

Hi Charlie, I received the pictures, I believe you want to use instead # 45-02-12 pieces that sandwich the 2″ middle piece # 45-G247-12. OK no problem.
I would like spex on how to attach the surface mounted grill, is it fixed or on hinges as we discussed.
Also we usually place the glass on the opening fixed with clear silicon with wooden molding on both sides. see the lower part of Spex1 drawing.
As is, it leaves a 1/8″ distance between the 1/4″ single tempered glass (shattering glass) and the solid iron grill. If we set the glass with a 1/2″ alder molding it will leave 3/8″, a safer distance.
Or please send better spex on how the glass will be held, looks like inside a wooden molding that has a pyramid base of 1 1/2″ then reduces to 3/4″ , I am not quite sure.
This order is to start next week, I will need clarification very soon.

Charlie, do not let the finisher scare you, the doors are fine. They only need finishing which is what you decided to do. I saw the pictures in the emails have not seen the package of pictures in the last bundle. ALL DOORS CAN BE NICELY FINISHED WITHIN HOURS.

I see that the doors were rubbed against each other and the moldings have moved and broken.

I can send all new molding by end of the week in your place at no charge. Must let me know today as I drive North to the polls.

The picture of the base for the wrought Iron was the same door in the picture on the website it is the door that Tom saw in person and approved. But it had the old design Grill.

The new design Grill had the hinges was different from the other 11 that were at the factory. I did not make a new door and did not charge for it, I only replaced the new grill on the same door, a little bit of wood putty will fix it in 3 minutes.

The trailer had a high metal fence and doors are 38″,  no way to keep them down, doors might have been bouncing. I strongly suggest, have 2 different finishers work on 1 door each.

The person who picked up the doors, said he expected the doors without any wood putty and holes through the doors were OK and is what you have at jobsite. Not sure this is your right guy.

Charlie, I am not happy that you are not happy.  I can take all doors back and finish them in the color of your choice as I offered once at n/c.

I posted a sample pictures on your page back in April (vintage texture). I can only do a polished finish at this point as texture is done before assembly of doors.  Have the glass also shipped to Los Angeles I will also install at no charge.

Your plan of having different people do different chores on a door is complicated, more expensive and everyone blames each other in order to charge more.

I originally agreed to a complete order and always prefer to deliver a finished product.

However you canceled the finishing, changed the order of door openings, 2 other grill designs, cancelled the glass because of a glitch on your specifications, redesign the moldings to hold glass in order to salvage the doors.

You would have to pay for the finishing materials (220.00 stain and clear satin poly acrylic) and transportation,  it will take 4-6 days from the day you drop them off,  just give me 1-2 days heads up.

This order was stopped in its tracks several times for modifications and errors on your part ( your specs drafter), no one here was happy, carpenters and iron fabricators made plans back in May for a 6 week job, it took 24 weeks. Everyone lost income and worked extra, moving all doors back and forth to and from production.

Your wife unkindly told my son, and you mentioned to me over the phone this morning that I quoted you or that you paid $24,000.00 for the 12 doors. What you actually paid was under 16,000.00 + tx.

If you take my offer you will have zero regrets it’s a promise. Just send doors on flat bed where they can be strapped down, if they get more damage it will take a few days extra.

 Thank You
Oscar Almaguer

to meCharlie
Oscar,

I have to tell you that upon personally inspecting the doors the craftsmanship and quality of work is subpar at best and completely unacceptable.

While there was a change in the grill design which I approved on my visit.  I would not have understood the hinge direction and impact on the door handles.  As a door manufacturer I would have expected you to understand those type of details, not me as the client.

Any other changes requested of the doors was to insure they would be compliant with building and industry commercial standards, such as Title 24 related to dual-pane and temper glass, as well as ADA requirements regarding thresholds for example, which appears you did not understand.

Given the condition of the doors we received from you, your offer to fix them in a few days, with zero regrets is incomprehensible, not to mention your attempt to blame my crew who drove to your shop waited 5 hours and helped assemble some of the doors for damaging them.

At this juncture we have zero confidence in your ability to provide us with the quality of door we expect and have paid for.  I have therefore directed the Main Company to attempt to salvage the doors for our project and keep track of the additional expenses we are incurring.

Regards,
Tom Halen

Tom I do not blame the driver, he did not do any assembly of any doors.  Nor waited 5 hours, nor he made any work on doors. My son and I personally loaded  doors except for the 1 st. it took 2 hours.

I do blame whomever send a driver to pick up precious cargo without ropes or a way to secure these heavy doors. After loading them I went to the hardware store to buy re-bar wire to hold the doors from bouncing, after the first line your driver stopped me and  said it was not going to work and that it would brake on 1st bump. He also said he was the guy who finished some beams on the Lomita Ranch he showed me pictures. Perhaps a conflict of interest. You are responsible for transportation.

In an offer of goodwill I  offered to replace all the moldings and I also offered to do the finishing on all 12 doors at no charge to you.  You refused. Doors were made based on your approved specifications, if you have proof of other ways by all means let me know.

However If  you are not happy with the doors bring them for a full refund.

 Thank You
